Hi All!
I am home finally and have a beautiful peacefully sleeping baby so thought i would get online and give you all the low down.
On Thursday evening i felt the initial onset of labour and didn’t sleep at all that night as i was too excited! But as the contractions increased in intensity i wasn’t so excited!!!
We went to the hospital on Friday afternoon at 3pm and I endured quite a few hours of what can only be described as a blur of unbearable pain. But i won’t get too much into that. I ended up requiring quite a range of drugs and assistance. Unfortunately after 2 sleepless nights, close to 30 hours of labour, 1.5 hours of pushing, no food and baby’s position i was told i wouldn’t be able to push him out. Bubs was getting a bit tired and distressed (but the Dr’s kept this well hidden from us), so they preped me for a possible C-section or forceps delivery and rushed me into theatre. At the thought of a C-section i was determined to get him out naturally and with the help of the forceps bubs was out in no time. We were surrouned by 11 professionals in theatre and were blown away by the amount of people that helped bring this wee man into the world. I have to say, labour was absolutely hell for me, but the minute they put Magnus onto my chest all was forgotten. I really would do it again in a heartbeat. Both Keryn and I are blown away by the instant love that you have for your baby when you first lay eyes on him. I am still on a huge high and absolutely adore little Magnus.
Bubs was having a bit of trouble breathing so was taken to the Neo Natal unit for monitoring and spent just over a day there. It was a bit rough not having him with us for that time, but we were glad he was in good hands. When Magnus came up to the ward with me we had to monitor is blood sugar levels and his temperature. We ended up having to give him a brief top up of formula to kick start him while my milk came in. That happended on Monday night and since then Magnus has been feeding beautifully and doing really well. He has even put on weight already and it can take babies 10 days to get back to their birthweight, so that’s great.
We came home on Wednesday and we are all settling in well. Keryn is pleased to have us home finally. I am loving just relaxing and spending loads of time bonding with Magnus. I am still pretty sore and fragile, so we will just take it easy for a while. I love my snuggle times in bed with Magnus in the morning – he is such a snuggly baby.
So all is great in our household and we are loving being parents to little Magnus. He is a very easy baby – sleeps lots, feeds well and hardly ever fussies – we are so blessed!
